2021 Fabric Challenge
Proceeds Support Our Charity Humanity Sews
Sponsored by Poppie Cotton Fabric & Nuttall’s Sewing Centers, this fabric challenge features “Dots & Posies” fabric line. There are only 24 kits available, so reserve yours. Quilts will be hung in the Nuttall’s Murray store through the month of August, 2021,
where the public is invited to vote for People’s Choice Award upon viewing the quilts. Quilts will be auctioned online the week
of 8/30 thru 9/4, 2021. $150 is the minimum bid for each quilt and the proceeds will benefit our charity Humanity Sews.
This challenge is open to individuals or groups. Print the entry form below to request a kit and send it, with a check payable to Downunder Diversions, in the amount of $25 to c/o Moana Burgess(address below); OR email your entry form to firstname.lastname@example.org and VENMO $25 to @Moana-Burgess.
The kit includes (eight) 1/2-yard pieces of fabric as listed. Kits will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis beginning February 1, 2021.

Additional “Dots & Posies” fabrics can be purchased at Nuttall’s Sewing Centers.
A recognizable amount of each of the 8 challenge fabrics must be used in the quilt top and up to 4 additional fabrics may be added. Entrant must provide the backing fabric; however; left over fabric from the top may be used. In addition to the kit fabric, any fabric in the “Dots & Posies” line may be used without penalty. Use 80/20 batting for the fill. Additional batting may be added for special quilting techniques, such as trapunto.
The quilt may include embellishments of any kind, including, but not limited to: buttons, trinkets, charms, hand or machine embroidery, ribbon, applique or other attachments.
The quilt’s perimeter must be crib-size(40”x 50”) minimum to full-size (70”x 88”) maximum. The quilt must be square or rectangle in shape. *NO quilts with the length shorter than the width. *NO wall hangings.
The quilt must be machine quilted. This includes long arm, short arm or domestic machines. The quilt may be quilted with thread(s) of choice.
The quilt must have a sewn-on fabric label on the back of the quilt at either bottom corner and must include:
a. “Poppie Cotton 2021 Fabric Challenge Quilt”
b. The name of the quilt.
c. The names of the individual piecer(s), designer(s), machine quilter(s) and any other participant.
The quilt must have a binding.
The quilt must have a 4” hanging sleeve made from challenge or backing fabric or muslin. It may be sewn or pinned to the back of the quilt to allow the quilt to be easily hung by a traditional pole.
2” x 2” swatches of each added fabric must be attached to the finalized entry form upon quilt submission. Do not include fabrics from the provided kit.
The quilt will be retained by Downunder Diversions for auction to benefit Humanity Sews. The online auction will take place 8/30-9/4, 2021. The minimum bid is $150. A quilt may not be purchased for less. Your quilt must be returned by the deadline or must be purchased for $150, the minimum bid.
A quilt name, quilt size and quilt description must be sent with the finished challenge quilt on the provided form.
The quilts will be judged and awarded prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd based on overall appearance, skill, fabric usage and machine quilting. People’s Choice Award will be given to the quilt receiving the most votes in-house at Nuttall’s Sewing Center, located in Murray, Utah.
The quilt must be delivered via mail or hand-delivered to a drop off point by Thursday, July 15, 2021.
